Boxed to GO Frequently Asked Questions

Is the program free?
No. The initial Boxed to GO reusable container must be purchased for $8 at the Alma Upshaw Café. After the initial purchase, used containers can be exchanged for a cleaned and sanitized Boxed to GO container or a Boxed to GO carabiner in the dining hall for no additional cost.

Who can use the Boxed to GO program?
All students, faculty, and staff can use the program. Opting in to the program is voluntary, however, guests must opt-in to the program to take meals to-go from Alma Upshaw Café.

What if the Boxed to GO containers or carabiners are lost or not returned?
Each new Boxed to GO container can be purchased for $8 and is non-refundable.

Is there a return window for bringing the Boxed to GO containers back to the café?
It would be appreciated if you return the Boxed to GO containers as soon as you are able so that we have containers available for all guests to participate. You can return it the same day, or even the following day when you dine with us next.

Is the Boxed to GO program the only to-go option?
Boxed to GO is the only to-go option available at Alma Upshaw Café. Disposable boxes, bowls, and cups will not be provided. All other dining locations offering meals to-go will have their own to go options available.

How does the return process work?
Return a Boxed to GO container to the cashier at Alma Upshaw Café. Upon return, you will be given a cleaned and sanitized Boxed to GO container if you plan to take another meal to-go. If you choose to dine in, or are just making a return, you will receive a Boxed to GO carabiner that can be used for a Boxed to GO container at your next visit.

Is this really a sustainable option?
Dining in the café with our dishware is the most sustainable option. If choosing a meal to-go, the Boxed to GO reusable containers are more sustainable than one-time-use disposable containers.

What happens if my Boxed to GO container breaks?
If your container breaks, please bring it back to Alma Upshaw Café so you can get a new Boxed to GO container or carabiner for your return. Broken containers can be sent back to the company where they will ground down for recycling and reuse, making this a zero-waste option!
