Boxed to GO

While we encourage guests to relax and enjoy a meal with friends, we know that busy Spelman students (and faculty or staff!) often must eat on the run. Spelman Dining provides the Boxed to GO program at Alma Upshaw Café as a safe, environmentally friendly, and convenient to-go option for students, faculty, and staff on campus. The program supports Spelman’s sustainability goals for a “greener” community by minimizing waste produced and putting sustainability into action on campus!

ABOUT THE BOX:

Your Boxed to GO container is made in the USA and is microwave and dishwasher safe. It is also BPA free and 100% recyclable. This means that once a Boxed to GO has been worn down from repeated use, and has reached the end of its life cycle, it can be recycled and remade into other materials. It has been tested for 1000 washes, making it more sustainable than a one-time use compostable option.

HOW IT WORKS:

We rely on our guests to make this sustainability initiative successful! The following steps are important to using the program properly:

  1. Request a Boxed to GO container from the cashier BEFORE swiping into the café. Your account will be debited $8 for one container.
  2. Fill your Boxed to GO container with menu items from any station in the café. Remember your container must be able to close, and only one reusable container can be used per meal period.
  3. When finished eating, empty and rinse your Boxed to GO container.
  4. Return the Boxed to GO container to the cashier on your next visit to Alma Upshaw Café. If you are taking another meal to-go, you will receive a cleaned and sanitized Boxed to GO container. If you choose to dine-in, you will receive a carabiner that can be redeemed for a Boxed to GO container on your next visit.

POLICIES:

  1. The Boxed to GO program is voluntary, however, guests must opt-in to the Boxed to GO program to take meals to-go from the Alma Upshaw Café. Every student, faculty, and staff member with a Spelman ID is able to purchase a Boxed to GO container.
  2. Should you lose or misplace your Boxed to GO container or carabiner and wish to continue using the program, you can pay $6 for a new container.
  3. Boxed to GO containers are not transferable to other meal plan users.
  4. Disposable boxes, bowls, and cups will not be provided. Disposable utensils will be provided on request.

FOOD SAFETY:

All food items taken to go should be consumed or refrigerated within two hours. Refrigerated leftovers should be consumed or discarded within two days.
